Published Interpretations of SIs Standard IATF16949 SIs

A published interpretation or sanctioned interpretation changes the interpretation of a rule or a requirement, and after publication and enforcement, it becomes a basis for non-compliance. The certification body should have a process for selecting new auditor candidates for acceptance into the IATF auditor qualification process.

Currently, IATF 16949 has 25 published commentaries that are used to keep IATF 16949:2016 relevant and up-to-date with required changes and commentaries. As ISO 9001:2015 is updated, IATF® is driven to review and update and has already prioritized a list of topics to consider for the second edition.

Even though the standard was published only four years ago, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) has already issued several additional changes called Published Interpretations (SIs). Changes in requirements are related to specific clauses of the standard. These are always defined, approved and published by the IATF as a set of changes to be implemented. But what is published commentary and why is it so important to be aware of them?

We must know that the SI documents are the same as the standard text and will be checked in the audits, and if the new SI is not implemented and is not visible in the system, it is obvious that we will have a non-compliance issue.
