Work measurement and time measurement

One of the main and fundamental factors in today’s era, especially in factories and production units and organizations, is the element of time, and its waste cannot be simply ignored, and one of the current issues of the world is to prevent time from being wasted. Among the work study techniques, work measurement can be mentioned, which is aimed at increasing the productivity of the organization.

In work measurement, we seek to do a task with the aim of finding the best way to do it, and in time measurement, we seek to determine the standard time of the work that is done, taking into account the factors affecting the time of doing that work. In fact, the use of methods to change the time pattern of the work that must be done at an acceptable level by an individual, work measurement, and the use of different and up-to-date techniques to determine the standard work time for a qualified operator who must do a certain work. To perform at an acceptable quality and operational level is called time measurement. Among the reliable and valid methods and methods that can be used in production factories and organizations to increase organizational performance, service quality and productivity, and reduce costs, is work and time evaluation. The scope of use of performance measurement in organizations is very wide and includes all processes except complex mental processes.

Principles of labor measurement

  1. In the category of job evaluation, the method of doing work is examined.
  2. The method of implementing job evaluation should be understandable and applicable.
  3. The standards used in job evaluation should not be considered too high or too low.
  4. The costs that are spent on job evaluation should be such that they have a lower level compared to the benefits.

Job evaluation methods

For the topic of job evaluation, one or a suitable combination of the following methods should be used according to the nature and foundation of the work to be undertaken and also the characteristics of doing that work:

  1. Predefined elements method
  2. Reporting method
  3. Sampling and sampling method
  4. How to use and benefit from past records

Benefits and advantages of job evaluation

  1. Providing the necessary time for office work
  2. Provision of necessary manpower for the implementation of headquarters works
  3. Increase efficiency
  4. reduction in costs
  5. Facilitate operation scheduling
  6. Making it possible to control and evaluate the work of employees

Different timing techniques

A) Direct observation methods DOM (DIRECT OBSERVATION METHOD)

  1. Timekeeping with stopwatches (STOP WATCH) : which is one of the most common time measurement methods. The person in charge of time measurement observes the working cycle times using a data recording table and a stopwatch and records them with all the details. Among the effective details in measuring time in the mentioned way are: The amount of cold and hot air, the amount of humidity, the amount of noise pollution, the amount of dust in the work environment, the difficulty and ease of work, etc.

For all relevant cases, there is a standard table by which the standard work cycle time is obtained.

  1. Work activity sampling method (WORK SAMPLING)
  2. Group timing method GTT(GROUP TIME TECHNIQUE)

b) Combined methods (SYNTHETIC METHODS)

  1. Use of standard data (USING STANDARD DATA)
  2. Preset timing systems including MOST & MTM families
